Community Updates

So, I got an email from Andrea reporting it known that Community Champions is missing from the groups menu.  If you are reading this, I  presume you also got her email and know that  you need to go to https://community.isc2.org/t5/forums/postpage/board-id/champions directly.  Either that, or you are @rslade  and subscriptions have magically started working :-).

A few immediate pieces of  feedback for @AndreaMoore   (and others to react to):

  1. The editor no longer has a "html" option.  I had previously used this extensively  to "fix" things like improper blockquotes.
  2. The "quote"  button is missing in the editor.
  3. It would be helpful to add the  All Posts link to the main page.  If there are any other cool views, add links to them too.
  4. Consider making the Main page have a tabbed-interface, rather than being 3 unrelated lists above/below each other.  If possible, make all  the lists expand in-line, like "recent activity" historically did.  And, please remember the current tab in a cookie or something.
  5. Rename the "Certification" menu "Becoming a Member" with the following boards "1)  Studying", "2) Schedule an Exam", "3) Take an Exam","4) Endorsement", "5) AMF Payments"
  6. Put the menus in this order:  "Become a Member","Member Services", "Discussions", "Groups", "Blog".  The goal being to leverage the belief that newbies will probably drop new discussions in the first board they see, so organize them to match the onboarding/lifecycle.
  7. Add a pinned message under member support explaining how to contact member services and that PII (including  member ID) should not be posted to the community.
  8. Ask Member support what their top-10 calls are and create a pinned message with the "canned answer" for each one under "Member Support".

Well, no.

Correct 🙂

I'm terrified of using the HTML option in the editor becuase of all the times that
I'm *NOT* using HTML and the editor still insists that there is invalid HTML in
the post.

(I never *have* figured out how to correct improper blockquotes ...)

Ah. Missed that.

Amen.

And amen.

Re: Community Updates

@denbesten @rslade  (I had to copy and paste in order to quote here. Working on that one!)

A few immediate pieces of  feedback for @AndreaMoore   (and others to react to):

  1. The editor no longer has a "html" option.  I had previously used this extensively  to "fix" things like improper blockquotes.  There is an option to "insert code" </> but I'll look into the HTML button option that went away. This was part of the updates not something I just personally chose to remove.
  2. The "quote"  button is missing in the editor.  Working on this one. (side note, wanted to let you know that you can now use @ to link to both people and previous posts)
  3. It would be helpful to add the  All Posts link to the main page.  If there are any other cool views, add links to them too. OK. Will look into this.
  4. Consider making the Main page have a tabbed-interface, rather than being 3 unrelated lists above/below each other.  If possible, make all  the lists expand in-line, like "recent activity" historically did.  And, please remember the current tab in a cookie or something. This might take longer/more work to look into.
  5. Rename the "Certification" menu "Becoming a Member" with the following boards "1)  Studying", "2) Schedule an Exam", "3) Take an Exam","4) Endorsement", "5) AMF Payments" Good suggestions. Will look into this.
  6. Put the menus in this order:  "Become a Member","Member Services", "Discussions", "Groups", "Blog".  The goal being to leverage the belief that newbies will probably drop new discussions in the first board they see, so organize them to match the onboarding/lifecycle. Good suggestions.
  7. Add a pinned message under member support explaining how to contact member services and that PII (including  member ID) should not be posted to the community. YES! These pinned messages/instructions is my goal.
  8. Ask Member support what their top-10 calls are and create a pinned message with the "canned answer" for each one under "Member Support". YES! Agreed 100%! I've already started an FAQ doc to post. Trying to reduce the repetitive questions.

Thank you for the suggestions for improvement. I really appreciate it!

Re: Community Updates

Unfortunately, "insert code" does not allow one to enter unformatted html.  Instead, it formats it as Lithium feels that "code" should look (e.g. outset from the body of text, monospaced font, no word wrap).  Note this example:

To be clear, the "HTML" option is not super-critical, but it does serve to minimize the need for many other "features", such as entering quotes for items that are not the message to which one is replying (e.g. snippets from other threads or web sites).

With #4, the bigger message is that the main page looks unfocused.  Hiding some things either with tabs (#4) or links (#3) might reduce the cluttered appearance.

Re: Community Updates

Purely personal, but I noticed that I have had to go back and subscribe to everything again.  Since the redesign it's been hard to tell, until I noticed I wasn't getting stuff, whether I was subscribed to the reordered boards or topics or not.
