How do you promote your chapter?

To all the other Chapters and anyone interested in responding to how we can better promote our chapter.

What do you do to promote your local chapter and draw people to your meetings?

We've been active using Social Media and word of mouth primarily.

Curious to know what others are doing, what has worked and what has not.

Thank You!

Sincerely,

Gerry

Gerry,

You may want to reach out to (ISC)2 as I had heard they were putting together a group of chapter leaders that could help other chapters.

@AndreaMoore are you able to contact Gerry with the appropriate person in the office to help with this one.

Also, you could reach out to @James for some guidance.  He is the Chapter president for Central Florida and he may be able to help you.

Regards

@dcontesti - thanks for tagging me so I could see it/help and thanks for tagging James at Central Florida chapter - he's a great resource!

@GerryS I sent this to our Chapters team to see if they can reach out to you to help with guidance.

A bit hard to say what we do as a chapter, since part of what we have done is join
with the Vancouver Security SIG (Special Interest Group), which is the oldest
security related group in our locale (coming up on 40 years).

We have a Website ( http://www.infosecbc.org/ ) separate mailing lists for meeting
announcements and discussion, and we also try to find and support other security
related groups in the area and announce their meetings and events as well. We try
to get our people to go to other meetings and let them know about us.

We support and provide volunteer help for BSidesVancouver and a twice-yearly
government event called BC Security Day.

I've posted about our stuff here in the past, but we've never had much response
from the "community" or the supposed chapter office from HQ. (We do report
regularly to them on our activities

I should also mention that we make every effort to be involved with students: mentoring, giving them half-price memberships (half of $0 is $0, right?), and we even had one of our monthly meetings at a high school one time.  Our immediate past president stared out as one of the student cohort (only a few years ago), and we encourage them to take on real jobs in the group, even joining the executive.  (Two of them were so active in the group that they were granted work-study experience credit by their college.)

We're doing our best to keep the Chapter free for everyone.

I'm going to try to reach out to some local security groups here to see if they'll post reminders of our meetings to their members.

We're also changing our format for meetings a little and trying to have multiple speakers so it's not just one person you're listening to.

Also, we're going to have a meeting where it'll be hands on instead of just lecture/discussion.

Sometimes the hardest part is to get those with certifications to even know we exist.

@rslade  @AndreaMoore  @dcontesti  @James  Thank You!
