A query for chapter officers - storage of chapter member data?

I am interested to hear from any chapters about how they manage their chapter membership data (membership database, event materials etc.). With an objective to have a collaborative and secure file share for nominated chapter officer access only, does anybody have example solutions in use?

We use google docs. Not the best method. So I am also interested in a more robust solution.

We have a MySQL-database with PHP front-end we call our 'registry'.

Access is limited to just a few of the chapter officers.

Some additional scripts to send e-mail and such.

If you have in mind what type of data you would need, I might be able to set up a custom solution that can support this in several languages, and mobile.
