New to information security

Hello everybody and good morning,

I am kind of new to information security. I was in IT Admin/Cust for 8 years and I was doing collateral duty as an ISSO for a few months now. I am already studying for the SSCP exam. I am looking into going into ISSO full time. Would a SSCP be a good starting point for getting a certification or an CAP? I am also looking at finding a mentor and going to some conferences.

Thanks, any help would really be appreciated.

As a potential mentor, let me stress that going to conferences, right now, is *not*
a good idea 🙂

But, you can always find some virtual meetings. The Vancouver Chapter (aka
Vancouver Security Special Interest Group) is having one in August:

(We don't charge for membership or meetings.)

Thanks,  I was not really going to go to one just virtual .

I really do appreciate you possibly becoming a mentor.

I am hoping that I am on the right track.

At present I am looking to become an ISSO, and I would like to know if I am on the right track with certifications: SSCP and CAP?
