Am Tavonga currently based in Gaborone as well,am a CISSP and have Bsc in Comp Science.I understand what you are going through because its exactly the same on my side.
Am considering relocating to SA, because maybe that is where our skills and expertise as CISSPs are valued hahahah.
My name is Tshepo Lepono from Gaborone,Botswana, I need your assistance if possible. I have been working hard recently transforming from IT Infrastructure to IT Infrastructure/Security, completed Comptia Security+, SSCP, CISSP, IBM Security and currently studying for CISA exam.
I'm growing too much frustration because of information security awareness here in Botswana, progress is slow, cyber security managers mostly network guys who don't understand information security governance are failing to accommodate us. All I'm asking for is to notify me in case there is any opportunity or organization that might be interested in my skills, I'm desperate to practice in a world where cyber security is number one priority. You can also find me on linkedin for more information.
Good luck finding a company where cybersecurity is the #1 priority. You are having the same struggles we all are. IT directors don't want to give up ground to information security people. You have to find a way to find the right balance between accepting risk and applying security. If you want to find companies that are serious about hiring cybersecurity people, look for companies that have been breeched recently. I am sure they are caring more about cybersecurity. Also look for companies in the same line of business as one that has recently been breeched. I am sure they do not want to be in the same boat as their competitor that was breeched.
