Hello Community!
I recently separated from the military to further pursue my passions. I am a Computer Engineer with 5 years experience in information/cyber security with a CISSP and my CCSP title is pending the endorsement process. This sounds decent to me at least, but the thing is I am just not having as much luck finding work as I thought I would. Attending my local chapters meeting, I gain a lot of amazing information about the local job market and opportunities. So I am wondering if there is additional resources in these forums to learn of opportunities, network, and perhaps get some feedback on my resume, etc. to help out this process. Thank you everyone!

Where are you located? That might have something to do with it. Someone with those creds, military background, and (I'm assuming) an active clearance would be picked up in a heartbeat in the D.C./Baltimore region for any of a number of contractors. I don't know what the market is like in the rest of the country, except for Austin where I'm at right now.
Also, do you have a specific niche you're looking to get into?
You may want to check the following job boards if you haven't:
Otherwise, it sounds like you're doing what you can with regards to scoping out the local market and making connections there.
I am in the Greater Omaha area. Agreed, other job markets would be better. This area is very veteran friendly so that's a plus.
I am having trouble finding a specific niche. I am open to a lot. I am applying for a little bit of everything. I am hoping to gain some non-mil experience to figure out what I like and what I can really apply myself fully to. This is a bit difficult as I am finding many employers may not know what they are asking for or the job post doesn't match the position. Comes with the territory I guess, haha. Due to military background, I mostly have managerial or higher-level picture experience as opposed to operator or engineer experience. But I enjoy learning and getting my hands dirty; so that would be cool too.
Thanks for the links! I will try them out.
I've gotten so much traffic through LinkedIn it's almost maddening.
I'm getting 5 to 10 emails DAILY regarding opportunities. Yeah, being in the DMV (District/Maryland/Virginia) area helps a lot but they usually don't take that in to account.
I have received many work from home inquiries. I would suggest that as an option. The hard lines of always having to work from an office are softening and many companies are willing to hire with that as a benefit.
I retired at Offutt AFB 15 years ago in May. Took a job with Raytheon Tucson as the network manager there at Missile Systems. Here I am 15 years later in Corporate IT Security and loving it. Like someone else stated in the thread, I get contacted almost weekly on LinkedIn for other opportunities. I have 15 years experience in infrastructure and IT Security along with the CISSP/ISSMP/CCSP certifications. There is something out there, you just need to be persistent and keep at it. Good luck.
