Preparing to move to the UK later this year, London tier 3 area, or Edinburgh. How is the job market for CISSP holders over there? Full stack developer background with few years WAF and audit experience.
Some opportunities on job hunting websites indicated "DV vetted" preferred, googled it, isn't it the highest level of clearance? Why is so many job (by proportion) required this? Just curious as it looks like have to be at least 10 years of UK residents before qualified for DV vetting (and usually not transferrable across employers?), and heading to UK with the new BNO here.
Yes Developed Vetting (DV) is the effective highest level of vetting in the UK context, eDV is rare. The process is quite intrusive as background checks go. There are lower level clearances required in some positions such as BPSS, which replace the old basic check, CTC, Security Cleared (SC) and eSC (enhanced SC) . See link below for further info:
DV is always the usual requirement for anyone who is likely to have access to classified or highly sensitive assets and this would typically always have applied to law enforcement and military positions.
DV is still required by these types of organisations but given the way in which security and privacy have become increasingly important and the way in which some of the roles traditionally done within law enforcement / military are now being outsourced, DV (or at least other levels of security clearance) are now required by a host of other organisations such as those who are, or may have aspirations to become, suppliers to law enforcement / military. Additionally a number of financial institutions are being to ask for this level of vetting because it provides a level of assurance that the candidate has been checked more thoroughly than most recruiters would be able to do.
