CISSP vs Sec+

How many of you maintain CEUs for both CISSP and Sec+ CE?   In the industry I previously worked in, CISSP overrode the Sec+ requirement.    I continue to complete CEUs for both.    Your opinions or thoughts?

I maintain both. CompTIA has made it so easy to apply CEU's for their certification that I keep it up. Either attend a conference once every three years or get any other certification; that will meet the CEU requirement. If the time comes that it becomes a hassle to renew the Security+, I would let it lapse. Once you are CISSP or have any other advance cert, there is no real reason to spend a lot of effort on a foundational certification (hence why CompTIA CEU's are so easy to meet).

BLUF: Tell CompTIA you have a CISSP, and you're done.

I have a coworker who claims he just called CompTIA and complained he had a CISSP, so why does he have to give them CEU's too and not just pay the renewal fee.  He proved he had an up to date CISSP, bam, CEU's done with CompTIA.

To that end, you'll notice a small blurb on CompTIAs website "You can renew your CompTIA certification by earning or renewing a qualifying non-CompTIA IT industry certification."

Renewing your CISSP, as seen in the link below is worth 50 CEUs to CompTIA for the S+ Cert.

I
have no idea why (ISC)2 does not advertise that renewing your CISSP will meet serveral of CompTIAs CEU requirements for lower level certifications.

I maintain both, that's because it's very easy to get CEU for CompTIA certification. Passing CISSP actually fulfill the CEU requirement for Security+ since CompTIA allow you to pass non-CompTIA certification and get CEU from it. They maintain a list of industry certification (such as regular MCSA or CCNA) and security certification that fulfill the requirement.

However, according to CompTIA certification roadmap, they position CISSP as more advanced certification compare to Security+; So one might question why need to pay CompTIA and maintain Security+ when you already have CISSP.

I'm of the simple opinion of, if I took a cert, may as well keep

I let my SEC+ lapse after I earned my CISSP in 2014.  I did not see the point in paying COMPTIA in order to keep my SEC+ current when CISSP is a more advanced certification.
