Always seek to be more technically competent in your space.  The field changes constantly, if you don't constantly improve your skill set, you will be left behind. 

 

In most cases, the half life of skills in the computing space is about 7 years (IMO).  Therefore, we must constantly be learning how to operate in the space we will inhabit next year.

 

This goes back to a quote I heard a long time ago in a self improvement book (at a time when using the term "man" was considered fully inclusive):

 

"A man who does not improve himself over time is no better off than one who cannot."
