Re: Welcome to the CISSP Group!

@denbesten Completely agree. Did not mean imply the shortcomings of one were the fault of the other. I was just pointing out that as a member/user of these services, Community and CPE entry page are both run/hosted/supplied "by ISC^2" and I am a user of these services, and they all seem to have taken a quality hit recently.

I can easily believe they were different projects with different people and vendors involved. However, both have demonstrated what many members seem to find inadequate behavior.  So I feel justified in saying someone dropped the ball with the testing and acceptance phase in both cases.

And yes, you have described my email subscription conundrum correctly. I did *not* subscribe to this thread specifically, because I don't need email updates about the failing/working of the reply function, but I did want to subscribe to the board/group level. For now, I'm fine not getting community updates for the group, until the email reply issue dies down.

Thanka.

Re: Welcome to the CISSP Group!

@Jesse_Mundis, I'll fully agree with you regarding the pitiful state of the CPE portal, for which many have been venting their frustrations for a long time now. I'd recently asked member support for an ETA of the fix of this, but they weren't able to provide one.

If the main CPE portal and this community are being handled by 2 separate teams --- as @denbesten said --- then the best / most we can do is interact with and support the team that's responsible for the community itself.

I think you actually can. If you click on your avatar at the top of the page, one
of the options is "My subscriptions." Click on that, and you get a list of your
subscriptions, by topic. You'll have to go through the list and find this one
("Welcome to the CISSP Group!"), but then you can check the box. At the top of
the list on whatever page you find it on should be a "Email Subscription Options"
dropdown button. One of the options is "Delete Selected Subscriptions." I suspect
that should do it.

Oh, please, @denbesten, you *know* that I cannot let a comment like that go
unanswered!

The fall of the CISSPforum on Yahoo was only caused because ISC2 killed it! (see
https://community.isc2.org/t5/Welcome/ISC2-has-cut-off-signup-access-to-the-
CISSPforum/m-p/10799 or https://is.gd/mwGCKD )

Whatever reason ISC2 might want to give for closing the forum (see
https://community.isc2.org/t5/GDPR/GDPR-and-killing-the-CISSPforum/m-
p/11172 or https://is.gd/BR6WUq ), the fact is that they killed it. The only cause
might have been that they were desparate to drive people to the "community."

A great many people complained about the killing of the forum (see
https://community.isc2.org/t5/CISSP-Group/Why-cancel-the-active-cisspforum-
Yahoo-Group-that-has-existed/gpm-p/10999 or https://is.gd/O6Uply )

A number of us aren't too pleased with the social media bias or the "community"
(see
https://community.isc2.org/t5/Welcome/The-quot-Community-quot/m-p/10594
or
https://community.isc2.org/t5/Welcome/Can-I-opt-out-of-kudos-and-badges/m-
p/11047 or https://is.gd/fl8HCr )

However, you don't have to take my word for it. Any CISSP can follow the
directions at
https://community.isc2.org/t5/Welcome/CISSPforum-replacement/m-p/11006
and see for themselves.

Thank you very much for testing this. It sounds like we are half-way to a fix and I am glad to hear we are making headway. I will forward along your answers to the vendor support team so they can investigate further.

As you (and possibly one or two other particularly observant members) know, I've been testing the "reply via email" function quite extensively.  Not exclusively: there is no way to post/start new topics via email (that I know of), and I have to fall back to posting via the Web interface when "reply via email" fails.

Which it does frequently.  It also fails (as far as I've been able to determine) randomly and intermittently, so it's difficult to calculate actual frequency, but I'd say it's in the 15-20% range.  Sometimes much higher: some mornings all of my "reply via email" posts fail.  (I can't recall if I've had a day when none of them failed.)

I haven't been able to determine any particular trigger or pattern to posts that fail.  I have, occasionally, noted that a failure might have been due to the dreaded "community" pr0n filter (usually because I've run into it when I retry the post via the Web interface), but a) that's rare, and b) there is no way to tell that from the "Message Posting Failed" email I get back because it doesn't have any error explanation or code.

I've stopped copying you on my replies, but I have been forwarding you the "Message Posting Failed" replies that I've been receiving from the system.  Hopefully you've been passing them along to the system vendor: it really would be nice to get the function fixed.
