We wanted to give you a few quick tips on how to make the most out of this group. Below you will find some information about how to join, participate, subscribe, and more! We also wanted to let you know that this area of the Community is currently only visible to those who have a CISSP certification and (ISC)2 Staff.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reply to this post, send me a message, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Replying – Just wanted to put a quick note here that you can reply by email to any of the subscription emails and it will post as a reply from your account on the Community!
Ummm, that doesn't make any sense. At the moment I've got two new "notifications" from the "community" in my email, one for a kudo, and one for a reply to my posting. Both of them are "From:" email@example.com, and neither of them have any other "Reply to:" header. (I've checked all the headers.) There is no code that would allow the "community" system to figure out which posting I wanted to reply to.
There are various URLs in the notification message that I can use to get to that particular message or reply (in a browser), but nothing that would identify my reply in a machine readable form.
Confirming what @rslade stated. I went ahead and tested this by replying to the subscription notification email I received for this thread ten minutes ago. I did receive an automated reply stating "Thank you for contacting (ISC)². Please note that this email account is not monitored for customer service."
Obviously, nothing has posted here (yet?). I would say this feature does not function as reported/intended.
Thank you for reporting on this. The functionality is turned on, but it appears it is not working appropriately. I'll test this in our testing environment and see what I can do about getting this fixed. I do know that this was one of the most-liked features from the Yahoo Group, so we will see what we can do about that.
One quick note about this, though - when it is working properly, the notification will need to be from a post/thread/article on the Community for the system to be able to post a reply. Any other subscriptions, like badge notifications or kudo notifications, will not post replies to the Community.
There is no code that would allow the "community" system to figure out which posting I wanted to reply to.
The email I got when you posted contained a link (CISSP Group) consisting of a long opaque string that could potentially be used for this purpose. Since Lithium does support reply by email, there is a good chance that (ISC)² could fix it if this were reported to them, which I suspect @RipVanWinkle just did with his post .
I wanted to provide an update on the issue with the reply by email feature. This should now be fixed! If you are receiving this notification by email or on any future notifications that you receive, you should see two links added right above the footer of the notification - Reply and Give Kudos.
If you click on Reply, it should open up a new email message for you to reply to the thread. Please note, your reply will include anything within the message, including your signature so if this has any information you do not wish to share (i.e. email address, phone number, etc.) you may want to delete it from the email.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or issues with this.

(It's been 25 minutes since I sent the email ...)
OK, I got a response:

Your attempt to post a Message to "Re: Welcome to the CISSP Group!" failed.
[I took that out, since the formatting was really bad.]
So, yeah, that's really helpful about what went wrong.
My original attempt:

Or enabled 🙂

Well, not exactly, and I had to go through some hoops, but, then again, I probably
use a system that is a lot more locked down, in terms of security, than yours 🙂
But, yes, that URL is a mailto, and therefore works (on my end) via email. Now
to test how it works in terms of coming through on your end.

Well, we'll see how the test goes, and if my reply does, actually, end up in this
post/thread/topic/whatever you call it.

On a future test I might mess with the subject part, and see if that changes things ...

Well, yeah, you can. But that's definitely an HTTP URL, and therefore a link,
and therefore doesn't work by email. (By the way, in testing it I accidentally gave
you a kudo, and I want it back 🙂
