CCSP Exam Change – Effective August 1, 2024

On August 1, 2024, the time allotted to sit for the CCSP credential exam will move from four hours to three hours. In addition to this change, the total items in the exam will adjust from 150 to 125

The six domains and format of the exam will not be impacted by this update. For more information on the exam content, we recommend reviewing the CCSP Exam Outline, which was last updated in August 2022.

Why does the change have to be 4 months down the line?  Can this change not be brought in sooner?  As why continue to put candidates through a longer process if being scaled back in the future anyway

Three hours for 125 questions means less allowable time to conduct the exam making the exam more difficult even the scope of the exam is unchanged.

Most people seem to prefer more advance notice of changes; not less.

I finished the exam back in February with 53-minutes to spare...and I certainly didn't rush (took my time) nor feel pressed for time.  I think answering 125-questions over 3-hours is a fair assessment...just don't dawdle. Cheers!

It will do that.  If you consume the entire available current test period, you currently have one minute and 36 seconds budgeted for each question.  The "less time / fewer questions" option shaves off ten seconds per question.

This is a good incentive for me to pay for the exam and take it in June!  😊

What about changes to the unscored/pre-test items? The last update added 50 such items. Will they remain the same or be reduced to 25? There is no clear information on it. I wish ISC2 put in that information on the exam outline page itself.

During the exam, you should be concentrating reading each question carefully, selecting the best answer and then moving onto the next question.  Wasting brain cells on "how well do I think I am doing?", or "am I moving fast enough" do nothing but take focus away from picking the best answer.  You are not told which questions are unscored, how much any given question is worth, nor if you answered it correctly, so you can not truly measure your progress in real-time, so don't even try.

The only "meta" information you can measure is your pacing.  But even then, I would only loosely pay attention.  For example, check the clock only after finishing each group of 25 questions.  You get 36 minutes, so if only 30 minutes have passed, no need pay any attention to the clock until another 25 questions have finished.

I would advise that while taking practice exams, you time yourself to develop a your natural pace.  Once you get an intuitive feel for how fast you need to move, it becomes much easier to focus on the questions on the questions instead of the clock.

Kinda like the speedometer while driving.  Years later, I only glance at it every once-in-a-while as a sanity check, instead keeping my eyes on the road.
