I currently hold an active CC certificate, and I would like to know how I can renew it after it expires.

you pay your annual maintenance fees BEFORE it expires, not after.

You will get a notification of this well before its due.

I have not had that experience either. But I think one important aspect of renewing your certificate is completing all your CPEs before expiration. There is a certain number of CPEs to acquire (45 CPEs, if I'm correct) within the 3 years of your CC certificate. If not, I think one has to sit again for the exam.
