Cybersecurity professionals, you’re not alone. Working from home and facing new challenges and pressures due to COVID-19, remember your peers are going through the same thing.

During the highly-attended webinar, “Gamechanger! What We’ve Learned (So Far) from the COVID-19 Outbreak,” a panel of cybersecurity professionals with experience in a variety of industries, including healthcare, insurance, financial services and tourism, recently discussed how their teams have been impacted by the shutdown caused by COVID-19, and the results of the recent (ISC)2 COVID-19 Cybersecurity Pulse Survey.

Of the more than 800 live attendees, 24% said their job changed significantly while 48% said that their cybersecurity job changed slightly in response to the COVID-19 situation. The webinar panelists discussed how they pivoted – some on a moment’s notice – mobilizing their workforce while continuing to enforce policies and procedures to ensure as strong a security posture as possible.

During the webinar, 33% of attendees also stated that they have been taken off typical security duties to assist with other IT-related tasks. While taking on other roles and responsibilities, panelists discussed how working as a team and supporting other departments allows for the refreshing of other skills. They suggested using this time to decompress by learning new creative outlets to balance out their professional work.

CISO Erik von Geldern, CISSP, said, “By creating something, you are ‘organizing the chaos of the current day’ which is what security professionals do every day.”

One survey respondent stated, “Security professionals are suddenly being looked to as creative problem solvers and risk reducers in ways that management never intended.”

Learn more about how these top security professionals handled the current situation in creative ways and what you can take away from their experiences and perspective as we weather these challenges together.

May 19: Continue the Conversation on COVID-19

Continuing the Conversation: What We’ve Learned From the COVID-19 Outbreak

On April 28, 2020, (ISC)2 hosted a diverse panel of cybersecurity professionals who discussed the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on their IT operations and cybersecurity teams.

The first webcast, in this series, generated a great deal of interest, discussion and questions from the audience. We will continue the conversation on May 19, 2020 to tackle the questions and discussions that continue to be raised during this ongoing crisis. This second webcast will be devoted to the economic impact (budgets slashed with no revenue coming in) due to the shutdown caused by COVID-19. In addition, we’ll discuss what re-opening an office may look like and how the current situation affects individuals both physically and emotionally. Join the conversation to share your thoughts and gain insight into how your team can continue to handle this changing situation.
