To give you a little more information, Graham has been working with (ISC)² for about 5 years and is based out of our Florida office.

Seeing as the Board of Directors elections is an important event each year, we are posting this article a little early to allow for everyone to get a chance to ask any questions that they may have about the elections. Graham will be live on Wednesday, August 29th at 1:00pm ET to answer your questions about the Board of Directors elections.

Feel free to leave your questions or comments now, and Graham will be able to answer them when he is live on the Community. For more information on the Board of Directors elections, take a look here.

Hi Graham,

One of the questions I had about the elections when I started what how the people on the Board of Directors slate are selected.  Can you explain how that process works?

Thanks!

Hi Samantha,

That is a good question. Early in the year, the Board begins looking for potential candidates to be on the slate.  Because our bylaws require that each Director be a certified member, the Board, through its Nominations Committee, will reach out to our advisory boards, committees and some chapters to request nominees.  Each nominee, if interested, will complete the application which is reviewed by the committee.  Once the review is complete, the Committee then takes its list of slate candidates to the Board for approval.

If anyone is interested on what characteristics the Board is looking for in its candidates, you can take a look at our Board Elections FAQs for a list experience and personal characteristics.    https://www.isc2.org/About/Board-of-Directors/Board-Elections

A popular question around election time, is which members are eligible to vote. Can you explain the details around who would be eligible to vote?

All members in good standing as of our first election announcement and the date of the election may vote.  For this year, all credential holders in good standing as of 08 May 2018 and the date of the election 05 September 2018 can vote. Any member who becomes certified after 08 May 2018 will not be eligible to vote this year.

If I were a member, I would want to make sure that I am informed of not only the election, but also about the candidates. What is the best way for members to stay informed about the election process?  How can they find out more about the candidates on the slate and feel confident in who they wish to vote for?

We try to provide several avenues for members to stay aware of the election process.  The first place I would look is your inbox for the email address associated with your (ISC)² account.  This is where all of our official notices regarding the election will be sent.  Generally we will send a notice 120 days/ 90 days and 1 week (the instructions) before the election.  We also will send reminders during the election encouraging you to vote.

Second, keep an eye on the isc2.org website for updates.  Once the slate candidates are finalized, we update the Board of Election page on our website to provide the slate candidates bios and other information.  If you are looking for good background information for the candidates I would recommend taking a look at their bios.

Finally, I would also encourage members to engage with the candidates here on the Community.  We have a board on this community where the members can ask questions directly to the slate candidates themselves.  If you have questions about what a candidate may bring to the (ISC)² Board of Directors, this would be the place to ask him/her.

That's it for today's Inside (ISC)² on the Community. If you have any further questions for Graham about the elections, please feel free to post here and we'll make sure to get you an answer. In the meantime, you can email any questions to election@isc2.org, check out the FAQ's and post in the board where you can talk directly with those on the slate - keep in mind, this area is only available to (ISC)² members.

Holy crow! I mean the "community" is extremely slow at the best of times, but
when you guys have one of these "Inside ISC2" things it just slows to a crawl! No
wonder nobody participates. Nobody can!
