ISC2 Team

(ISC)² recently completed our multi-year Digital End-to-End Transformation (DETE) project, which positions us to deliver a more a seamless and user-friendly experience to all members. In addition to revamping our online presence, we launched a new Learning Management Systems where members can access all the courses developed by our Professional Development Institute. The road to DETE, however, took years of planning and execution as our team modernized our infrastructure and back-end systems, including migrating the majority of key systems to the cloud. In Part One of this series examining the journey the organization undertook, Bruce Beam, CIO, will discuss the rationale behind the initiative and steps taken to gain approval from the board of directors. Join us on July 16, 2019 at 1 p.m. Eastern as we begin this three-part, in-depth case study of how (ISC)² accomplished this ambitious project. Attend the webcast for free by registering here

I will certainly be joining this even if it's only for a lesson in how not to do things!

You do realise the vast majority of members here on the Community and other ISC2 related forums across the Internet view the changes and the way they were implemented as nothing short of disastrous, right?

Well, I got back from the meeting and eagerly signed on to catch the archived version.  (By the way, between the ISC2 site and BrightTALK, something doesn't like Firefox.  But I was able to get on with Chrome.)  So, I was told:

DETE is not just a buzzphrase!  Or a buzzword!  (Or an insect repellent.  Or a type of plastic ...)  We need it!  We really need it!  (Why?  Siddown, kid, ya bother me ...)

We're developing solutions!  (The chief cause of computer problems is computer solutions ...)

Why did we need a transformation?  Solutions!  Buzzwords!  Cloud!  Blockchain!  Common Universal Data!  (Did someone say "text only"?)

We have a small staff.  So we changed everything all at once!  This allowed us to stress-test the member support function!

Our intended results?  Solutions!  Buzzwords!  Cloud!  Blockchain!  Busy graphics slides with lots of circles!

Interviewer/MC: Please tell me more about some of these buzzwords!  Use as many more buzzwords as you need!

Rationale: Solutions!  Buzzwords!  Cloud!  Architecture!  Blockchain!  This relates closely to "why."  (Ummm, doesn't rationale always, inherently, relate to "why"?)

We planned for change!  We talked to everyone!  Everyone!  We talked to experts!  For years!  (However, the fact that "change management" is part of the CBK, and that you always plan for something going wrong, seems to have escaped all of us.)

(Sorry, what does T-shirt size have to do with systems development?)

We knew that there was a risk!  (We just forgot that "risk management" is also part of the CBK ...)

Join us next seminar; same CISSP time, same CISSP channel; for: Solutions!  Buzzwords!  Cloud!  Architecture!  Blockchain!

Yeah, I wasn't able to watch it live either, but have just watched the archived recording.

As expected it was a whitewash with scant recognition there were any problems - let alone the volume or variety of problems across all systems we've had to endure, many of which still persist.

What's the betting the CPE I earned from watching doesn't get auto added either?! Smiley LOL
