In honor of Cyber Security Awareness Month and National Bullying Prevention Day, Pat Craven, the Director of the Center for Cyber Safety and Education, is joining us here on the Community for an Ask Me Anything (AMA).

Patrick has more than 30 years of experience working within the non-profit industry. He has held various C-Level executive leadership roles across the country at notable charitable organizations, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and the Boy Scouts of America. As Director for the Center for Cyber Safety and Education, Patrick brought in Garfield to be the official spokescat of the Safe and Secure Online program! Have questions about the Garfield lessons, getting involved in your local community, bringing education to your company … ask Pat!

We’re also going to be giving away an Educator’s kit to one participant today. The kit is a great way to introduce the program to a classroom, church group, scout group, library - or any other community gathering of children. Watch your inboxes and tell us why you'd like to receive the kit!

I would love to get my hands on one of these kits! With 2 children falling into the age group this is aimed at, and the abundance of tech they use daily, it worries me that if an adult can fall prey to scammers easily enough, what chance do the children have?! This looks to be just the ticket for getting a necessary message across without damaging their innocence!

Thank you @Smart1n for reaching out! As you said, kids today have easy access to the internet, but they are not getting the training they need to use it safely. The Garfield program is getting great feedback from teachers and parents, so we hope you enjoy it too!

Are you looking to order materials for your children's school or to teach your kids at home?

Since June is Internet Safety Month and Garfield's 40th birthday, we actually just started a promotion for the home packages. Click here to view.

If you are an (ISC)² member, please email me at safeandsecure@isc2.org for the Educator's Kit promo (group learning). Otherwise you can purchase it here

Hope this answers all your questions! Feel free to reach out anytime at safeandsecure@isc2.org.

Kind regards,

 Hi Pat,

First of all, thanks for your good work.  I really enjoyed your presentations at the recent ISC2 Congress in New Orleans.

I just purchased the first 3 lessons of Garfield's cyber safely adventures and I'm very much looking forward to introducing this program to our local school department in Quincy, Massachusetts.  I am planning to meet with local officials and our School Committee to present the program and I'm excited to see where this leads.

As I prepare to introduce Garfield to the City of Quincy I can't help but wonder how others has fared in similar efforts.  Is there a list of "lessons learned" or a group at ISC2 that have been working to introduce the Garfield program?

@jzarnoch that's so great to hear! I'm more than happy to send you more information that you can use when presenting to the city. Please email me at bparres@isc2.org

Best,
