Chapter Status Update

(ISC)² is proud to announce that the (ISC)² Atlantic Canada Chapter has recently received its charter and is now an official chapter of (ISC)²!

It will provide information security professionals in the local community an opportunity to build a local network of peers to share knowledge, exchange ideas and earn CPEs. In addition, you will be able to:

  • Develop or enhance your leadership skills by serving as an officer or chairing a committee
  • Pursue speaking or writing opportunities for chapter functions or general public
  • Collaborate with other local chapter organisations to develop synergy and share knowledge
  • Advance security awareness within the local community
  • Mentor students as they pursue and enter the information security profession.
Meeting Announcement

The (ISC)² Atlantic Canada Chapter will be holding its inaugural chapter meeting on December 07, 2022.

When:

  • Date: December 07, 2022
  • Time: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm AST

  1. Official chapter announcement & officers/members introduction (Jessica, 15 mins)
  2. Timing of annual meeting (mid-May) and subsequent (Jessica, 5 mins)
  3. Membership and dues policy and procedure (Ryan & Jessica, 5 mins)
  4. Plan for potential director positions and responsibilities (Rob, 10 mins)
  5. LinkedIn pages and member activity survey (Rob, 5 mins)

Meeting Notes

Dec.07.22

Duration – 2 hours ( 2 CPE )

 

  • Stephen asked - can we setup notifications from GroupHUB - Dele to investigate

  • Manuel asks - will communications become bilingual - Manuel says he can help

  • Stephen - do members need to keep records for CPE credits for potential audits – Nick to investigate

  • John Oni suggests that feedback on bylaws be sent to chapter email box

  • Michael - are the bylaws "Americanized" , references "Secretary of State"

  • Manuel - section 5 references new terms - directors versus officers

  • John - compare to other Canadian Chapters

  • Michael suggests we add the link to the Montreal chapter bylaw at the top of ours during the editing phase ( https://isc2mtl.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/ISC2_MTL_Chapter_Bylaws20200429.pdf )

  • Manuel we need to be careful with the term director - the new positions , are they accountable like directors ?

  • Linda makes the motion that 6 temporary directors be nominated until a proper election can occur

  • Michael seconds the motion

  • DIRECTORS - Manuel Charrette, Chris Clarke, Jon Oni, Julien Richard, Mike Mayers, Stephen James

  • Should we vote on preferred meeting times

  • Maybe do one after hours and one during the day

  • Google workspace for not-for-profit - research

  • Linda motions that we can add as many volunteers as we would like as directors before the election (Jessica will reach out to the chartering election candidates)
