Kudos....

I wonder why so many of the posts I read, and sometimes respond to, have zero, yes, you read right I said ZERO kudos, even though there are responses to the posts, and responses to the responses to the posts.

I get it that there are some people who don't like the Kudo system, and that's fine, because it's no more really than the Like system on various other systems.

But, I find that if you read a post, and respond to it, or not, if the post is interesting, then simply click that Kudo button.

It tells the person who wrote the post that you appreciate them taking the time to write it.

Then, if you disagree with what was written, have a different viewpoint, or agree, you can choose whether you want to respond or not.

But come on, give the guys and gals some Kudo's.

It's just a click away....

I guess you are right! Personally, it bugs me a little how on so many of these systems like Facebook that you can like something but you can't dislike something. My guess is that allowing people to dislike would no longer make Facebook the fake little safe space where everyone likes you. I am not a big posted to begin with and posting here is my first major try and I am still getting the hang of how to do some of the things, but from not on I will take your advice and try to give more kudos when I find something interesting. I like getting them so others probably do as well!

John-

Or why others don't.

If on the one hand you say we should delete our social media accounts, well, anyone is free to do so. but in this case, where the kudo is supposed to make the person who wrote the post, or those who answered feel that others agree and approve of what they said, I don't agree with the reference.

Then again, I can't and don't want to tell others what to do. I do it, and it interested me to know why so may people simply do not do it.

So, a simple... "I don't believe in it" would suffice. I'm not going to go read a book and try to work out the mindset of others who may have, or may have not read someones musings. As good as they may be.

I'd much rather sit back with a good historical novel, historical book, sci-fi, thriller, or talk to my daughter.

Respect.

> MikeGlassman (Contributor I) posted a new topic in Welcome on 01-12-2020 12:25

> I get it
> that there are some people who don't like the Kudo system, and that's fine,
> because it's no more really than the Like system on various other systems.

I have a real aversion to the "social media" aspect of this "community," kudoes
(and badges) being part of that. So, while I do, occasionally, kudo something, it
takes a little extra (usually a chuckle) to get me to overcome my deeply seated
aversion to kudoes and give one.

> Then, if you
> disagree with what was written, have a different viewpoint, or agree, you can
> choose whether you want to respond or not. But come on, give the guys and gals
> some Kudo's. It's just a click away.... (when they work )

The other reason that I don't kudo very much is that I use the "subscribe" and
"reply-via-email" features to do most of my stuff here (partly so I can still
pretend this is sort of like the CISSPforum). I rarely go on the site through the
Web interface, and you still can't kudo via email ...

====================== (quote inserted randomly by Pegasus Mailer)
rslade@vcn.bc.ca slade@victoria.tc.ca rslade@computercrime.org
I'd explain it to you, but your brain would explode
victoria.tc.ca/techrev/rms.htm http://twitter.com/rslade
http://blogs.securiteam.com/index.php/archives/author/p1/
https://is.gd/RotlWB

I went and read your post and agree with it for the most part. To me I give a kudos here if I think something is meaningful and worth while, but I have nothing to add or say, kind of like nodding your head when having a real conversation as a way to let the other person know what they took the time to put out there has merit. I view this community in a very different light then any of the social media platforms because here I expect things that are posted to be relevant and meaningful in some way. I will say I am not happy that Facebook mentality seems to be creeping into Linkedin, as that is the only other place I can be found on the net.

And not sure what it says about me, but I still have a usenet account! 🙂

John-
