I don't understand why they would transfer funds based on phone calls and emails only. Doubly so for quantities that large. Phone calls to known account holders, a bit further validation should have turned up the fraud easily.

HI All

So a huge bank fraud is perpetrated using deep fake voice technology to steal US$35 million dollars. So how do we provide suitable countermeasure for such attacks, given that the human voice can no longer be trusted, unless it goes through a trusted AI driven or NLP driven analysis to prove beyond reasonable grounds, that it really is you? Suggestions? Does this mean we must now have encrypted speech, via normal phone lines, or Mobile phones? One the basis that most organisations do not have access to such capabilities reserved for Governments etc.?

https://www.forbes.com/sites/thomasbrewster/2021/10/14/huge-bank-fraud-uses-deep-fake-voice-tech-to-steal-millions/?sh=791f9e5d7559

Regards

Caute_Cautim
