Sadly, I believe we will never rid ourselves of the Crypto War arguments.

Best solution I have as an individual is to give money to EFF and EPIC; follow the warnings of Bruce Schneier and other privacy advocates. And help educate younger security and privacy and policy practitioners on this history and its importance. Be sure to check all of the above links.

Back to the old clipper chip arguments again! Keeps being raised every few years.

Crypto for the masses is already suite B. And there are still conspiracy theories around S box designs, so I'd opinion that the periodic rantings about banning encryption technologies on the grounds of anti-terrorism or crime prevention are just political noise.

Even in a surveillance state intercepts won't give the full story. For anyone in doubt examine those around the Omagh bombing or Libyan embassy siege and you'll see even a clear text often doesn't reveal enough to be actionable.
