If that's the case then a lot of my WhatsApp contacts --- encompassing ALL colleagues here in KSA --- are continually under duress...

@Shannon @rslade So does this suggest you are about to put yourself (@rslade) in a precarious position or that you are planning ahead? This is rather like the old hostage situation during the Vietnam War, from recall - whereby an American captive was able to use morse code to convey he was a prisoner under duress.

This also smacks of the historic WWII SOE approach whereby there was a key word, which had to be put randomly injected into the code stream/communications - five letter blocks - which would indicate whether or not the station had been compromised or that the enemy at the time, had taken over the station etc.

Do you suggest all security practitioners have pre-loaded conditions to indicate whether or not they are working under duress or captive?

Most of my contacts tend to use contractions, misspell words, and neglect grammar, so relying on this as an indicator definitely won't be feasible.

If I come upon a post from someone who doesn't bother with all this, and notice that it's got no errors, I might sooner assume that the person's account has been hacked or that he / she is being impersonated, rather than under duress...
