ONCD 5 Cybersecurity Budget Priorities

Recently, the White House Released five cybersecurity budget priorities.

Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Shalanda Young and Acting National Cyber Director Kemba Walden sent a letter to the heads of every executive department and agency highlighting what government agencies need to prioritize when constructing their budgets:

the defense of critical infrastructure
investments in resilience
international partnerships
using government purchasing power to shape the software market
dismantling threat actors.

This proactive approach to building out the cybersecurity talent pipeline is necessary to address the issues facing the cybersecurity workforce. However, we can’t stop here – there is more work to be done including collaborating across borders and industries, increasing recruiting tactics and professional development, as well as upskilling and continuing the work to establish harmonized standards and best practices across the sector.

This is a step in the right direction and it’s exciting to see the federal government taking these actions to address the very serious issues facing cybersecurity and the ever-growing threats organizations face every day.
