I'd be hesitant too @tmekelburg1, all it takes is one bad apple with that access to misuse it.

That said, in my neighborhood, we've had a rough few weeks. Some thieves have been taking stuff out of cars, and in a very few cases, the cars themselves. Most of the activity is just people trying doors. We are of course sharing any footage from our video doorbells with the police, but I don't know that I'd want to have the police (or anyone) to be able to monitor my doorbell like that at their own discretion

The Amazon "Ring" doorbells (and other related products), with cameras and motion sensors, are used to allow homeowners to extend surveillance around their front door areas.

And then people got concerned that the police were accessing those cameras to perform surveillance in residential neighbourhoods.

Well, now the police seem to be concerned that people are using these devices to spy on the police, when the police are doing surveillance or planning raids ...

"In the UK, Wiltshire police have set up a database of private smart doorbells and security cameras, and residents are being asked to register theirs."

I'm assuming they have good intentions for this but I'd still be very hesitant in registering it willingly. I wouldn't have any issues of letting them view footage if they think it could help solve a crime/case though.
