As fun as it is to bash on Facebook, it is naive to equate renaming an account with entering witness protection. The intent of renames are to address the common cases of marriage/divorce and changing nicknames, in which scenarios, updating all the references helps keep the world sane.

If the goal is to "disappear" one really needs new accounts or to drop off social media altogether, as the article suggests.

So you've been in a bad, maybe toxic (possibly even abusive?) relationship.

You break off contact. You block the Facebook account of your ex. Maybe you even go so far as to change your name.

Your Facebook accounts are still linked. And Facebook finks on you. And they don't plan to do anything to fix the problem ...

But the fact that this is a bug, which Facebook has no
intention of fixing, is also rather bizarre ...

====================== (quote inserted randomly by Pegasus Mailer)
rslade@vcn.bc.ca slade@victoria.tc.ca rslade@computercrime.org
Trying to determine what is going on in the world by reading
newspapers is like trying to tell the time by watching the second
hand of a clock. - Ben Hecht
victoria.tc.ca/techrev/rms.htm http://twitter.com/rslade
http://blogs.securiteam.com/index.php/archives/author/p1/
https://is.gd/RotlWB
