The question is not can it happen, rather, can it still happen. Many years ago an entire nation had its networks black-holed in the DNS system due to an error in a DNS change (or was it, maybe, NOT accidental?) I don't have the details at my fingertips. If I can resurrect the reports I will add them to this thread.
