    <description>&lt;P&gt;Concentrating mainly on tracking and third-party cookies, a &lt;A href="https://wholeftopenthecookiejar.eu/static/tpc-paper.pdf" target="_blank"&gt;new study&lt;/A&gt; has looked at the various adblocking and privacy capabilities of the major browsers, as well as the major adblocking add-ons.&amp;nbsp; It finds that &lt;A href="https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2018/08/20/adblocking-and-browser-privacy-can-be-bypassed-researchers-find/" target="_blank"&gt;a) the overall situation is pretty good, and b) there is definite room for improvement&lt;/A&gt;.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;In general, the researchers found that there were ways around adblocking, but that most of the techniques they discovered were not being exploited "in the wild."&amp;nbsp; Hopefully the study will be used by adblocking technologies to improve their function.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;(In other news, &lt;A href="https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/technology/number-of-third-party-cookies-on-eu-news-sites-dropped-by-22-percent-post-gdpr/" target="_blank"&gt;GDPR seems to be having an effect on the use of tracking cookies and third party tracking--but only on sites in the EU&lt;/A&gt;.)&lt;/P&gt;</description>
