When I try to find an old thread here in the community, the results tend to list only two or three threads, not all that match the search crteria. Why is it so limited?

My workaround has been to use open Google search with the statement

in:community.isc2.org as the initial statement, followed by the desired search terms.

For instance, compare an internal search result as

https://community.isc2.org/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?advanced=false&allow_punctuation=false&q=censor

with the Google search at

https://www.google.com/search?ei=RX7jW7ca46H9Bs2DtPgI&q=in%3Acommunity.isc2.org+censor&oq=in%3Acommunity.isc2.org+censor

> CraginS (Contributor III) posted a new topic in Member Support on 11-07-2018 07:33 PM in the (ISC)² Community :

> When I try to find an old thread here in the community, the results tend to
> list only two or three threads, not all that match the search crteria. Why
> is it so limited?

Actually, there seem to be at least two different search functions (not that anyone
uses either, for the most part). If you type a word or two into the search boxes
*without* hitting return, the system pops up a few (sometimes as many as a
dozen) hits which seem to be based on a "top and tail" search that seems to look
at subject lines, labels, and tags. Then there is the full search, as you note, if you
hit return. (Which takes forever if you do it on the "community.")

It seems to show you a few hits on the first page, but, if you ask for the next page,
you may get more. It does seem to be *almost* as complete as Google,
eventually. (If you keep asking for the next page.)

====================== (quote inserted randomly by Pegasus Mailer)
rslade@vcn.bc.ca slade@victoria.tc.ca rslade@computercrime.org
The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance -- it is the
illusion of knowledge. - Daniel J.
