Finding your posts

I was helping someone find a post he had made on the community (which is not always easy), and figured that this might help various members:

You (and anybody else on the Internet) can find all your posts at
https://community.isc2.org/t5/forums/recentpostspage/post-type/message/user-id/1324864413. (Actually, you'll find of of my posts there, but you get the idea.)

Long version: do a search to get on the search page
https://community.isc2.org/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message
make sure you are full/large screen, click on "USERS" under the search bar, type your username or part of it into the search bar, select you from what shows up and click on "[number] Posts" link behind/under your name.

I've also got to put in a pitch for labels and tags. They really do help, like @SamanthaO_isc2 said.

Particularly labels, so it's kind of a pity that they are only available when you create a new topic/thread. For example, you will note that if you search on "Friday" you will find my more humorous postings. (OK, the postings I intended to be humorous. Even if they aren't that funny and people may take offence at them.)

(Q - How many offence-takers does it take to change a lightbulb?

A - We don't know and IT'S NOT FUNNY!!!)

(You can use any group not noted for a sense of humour in there. When I first heard it it was feminists, but too many people make jokes about feminists that really aren't funny.) (Maybe "blockchain fanatics"? "Blockchain fanatics" would work ...)

But you can tag anything. Even posts that aren't yours.

I should probably add "Friday" to more of my posts, but one of the problems is that you can't add tags if you are using "reply via email."

But you can add tags after, if you are using the Web interface.

And, if you are starting a topic, you can add labels. For example, if you are discussing authentication, you could add labels for verification and confirmation, so that people searching on those words would find your post. You can also add synonyms with tags, when you make a reply. Then people can find the meaning, even if you didn't use that word in the text of you post itself.

(I suspect the search function pays more attention to labels and tags than it does to the text of the post or reply anyway.)

Thank you for posting about this. I'd love to hear more about the reasons you are looking for your own posts - is it to include links in your replies or for something else? I'll dig around and see if I can find a better solution to this so that we can make it easier on everyone to look through their own posts.

If there is anyone else looking for this, please feel free to chime in - it helps us with prioritizing to see how many people are in favor of a particular idea/request.

Sometimes I look for my old posts to help out someone taking the CCSP Exam.

Pure ego? Trying to find something worth reading on the "community"?

Usually I've covered an issue, and want to reuse rather than simply generate
another post/thread/topic. Sometimes, as with news items, I want to co-orelate
two (or more) items, or expand on a previous one.

Hmmmm. Interesting. Maybe a "full text" listing of your stuff, rather than the
"first line" like it is now?

Like @rslade, I too do not want to have to retype the same thing if I, or someone else has already eloquently explained it. So I will search for a post I made to do that also.

Sometimes it is for use elsewhere but basically it is so I don't have to retype it!

On both the home page and on my profile page, there is a statement that I have made NNNN posts. It might be a bit more intuitive if this were a hyperlink similar to the one that Rob pointed out in the search.

Similarly, the Kudos given and Kudos received would also benefit from being hyperlinks.
