Test results policy change?

So...when I took the CISSP exam (a billion years ago-- you whippersnappers with your six-digit ISC2 Member numbers and your fancy phones...), they gave us our score on the test, regardless of whether or not we passed.

At some point in the 21st century, that changed to only giving the score if you failed. Makes sense-- we don't need members with various certs claiming superiority over other certified members based on test scores. But it is useful for those who have failed to know by how MUCH they failed.

Got a message recently from a former student-- failed. No score.

Did the policy change at some point? I'd like to be able to tell candidates what to expect. Recent candidates-- wanna share your experiences with testing results?

I think they stopped giving out scores for failed exams with the introduction of the CAT version of the CISSP exam, which I believe was brought in around a year ago.

This policy is also applicable to all of the other exams, and presumably was applicable from the same date.

You are apparently provided with a proficiency rating (above/near/below) for each domain to help you know where to focus your studies for when/if you reattempt the exam.

Yes, ISC2 should definitely update the website with the correct info. That's crucial.

On the FAQ page, it states that passing candidates will not be given scores but failing candidates will be provided with their proficiency levels.

A: For those who passed an examination, scores are not provided. For those who failed an examination, a breakdown of the domains in proficiency levels will be provided.

Q: Can I get a copy of my failed exam report?

A: No. Candidates do not receive numerical scaled scores on their pass/fail examinations. They are provided their proficiency level.

20th, actually: "no score on passing" was well establsiby 2000.

And you could get your "failed" score up until a couple of years ago. I think it was
the CAT version that changed that (although it might have come slightly earlier
in the computerized version of the paper-based exams ...)

As far as I know at the moment, if you fail you get a list of which *domains* you
passed or failed, so you can do some targetting of study ...
