Transitioning into Cybersecurity (SOC Analyst / Security Analyst Roles)

Hello ISC2 Community,

I'm reaching out for guidance and support as I transition into a cybersecurity career.

I bring over 7 years of experience in:

Application monitoring, data pipeline development, and data warehousing
Enterprise Splunk dashboarding, log onboarding, and alerting and reporting
Automation scripting (Python & Shell) for monitoring, reporting, and secure file transfers
Supporting War Rooms, RCA, and incident tracking during production and security events

Recently, I earned the ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) credential to build a strong foundation in network security, risk management, and incident response.

With my background in operational monitoring, data visibility, and enterprise tooling, I’m eager to pivot into a role where I can apply these strengths in a SOC Analyst or Cybersecurity Analyst position.

I’d greatly appreciate:

Advice on breaking into the field from others who've made a similar switch
Any resources, communities, or mentorship programs you recommend
Referrals or opportunities you may be aware of (anywhere in US)

Congrats on earning your ISC2 CC!
With your background, you already have a solid head start for SOC roles. I’d recommend getting familiar with MITRE ATT&CK and Incident Response. Also, look into joining local ISC2 chapters, great for networking.

Next, I would look into CompTIA's CySA+ certification: https://www.comptia.org/en-us/certifications/cybersecurity-analyst/ I'd get the voucher + Retake because this one may be one of the more difficult certifications offered by CompTIA. And, I would do online labs through TryHackMe or another similar provider.
