Hi Zendave,

I'm new to Perth and currently looking for on-site work.

I'd like share my observations with you; they might not be entirely, but they might be helpful.

1. Many cybersecurity jobs require an IT background and a lot of hands-on experience, or IT jobs that also require cybersecurity knowledge.

2. Some cybersecurity jobs require excellent communication skills to communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, especially when negotiating budgets with C-suite.

3. In addition to technical skills, understanding goverance standards is also necessary, such as ASAC Essential 8, ASD ISM, ISO27001, NIST, etc.

4. Cybersecurity also requires understanding legal aspects, such as the Privacy Act 1988, which mandated compliance with Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB), otherwise, penalities can reach over 50 million AUD.

5. Some cybersecurity jobs are being replaced by AI, and future work will require collaboration between humans adn AI, so you also need to know how to work with AI.

Cybersecurity work is very broad, but in Perth, Australia, there's a lot of work done by the Blue Team. I like the Blue Team's work because it involves a strong sence of protection and mission, particular protecting critical infrastructure from intrusion by nation-state actors.

I hope this sharing is helpful to you.
