Saw a position that stated in the requirements:

CISSP or CCNA

Lot of us have seen worse.

Like entry level positions (couple of years of experience), that ask for CISSP.

Saw one job description for a security admin that asked having a CISM, which was ridiculous.

A friend of mine went on a job interview to be a security guard. After spending 12 hours in the waiting room... they hired him.

At a meeting a guy told me how his company just hired someone that only matched 20% of what they were looking for. He was the best match the could find!

I think the requirement was you had to have a cert that had TWO letters that were the same in succession.

Wow!

Considering the various positions I was rejected from just for not having 1 or 2 items, as well as several positions in my area going unfilled for MONTHS when I know several qualified candidates who applied, am surprised by this.

So many companies looking for unicorns/purple squirrels that this one would take someone only matching that much is amazing.

@emb021 It was in Austin where that 20% happened. You are just in a bad market where you are so it makes it a lot harder. When I was there I had recruiters hold and not forward my resume for things the reached out to me for. As you have mentioned you went out to places and told them what they needed and they just didn't seem to care. Down there is all about hospitality and not businesses that really care about IT and security. I think an up side to COVID will be so many companies will be embracing the fact that jobs can be done remotely, so people in areas like your will start having a LOT of remote opportunities and hopefully they will be taken. This will leave those companies with far less people and they will have to stop their current practices.

Also, I'm sure you can see to this, the main group you are a member of is using Let's Encrypt on the website and it's setup wrong. If you go there with the address starting with www it works fine, but it you use the base address without it you get a bad cert error. You might need to clear your cache and go back to see it. It's just a matter of redoing it without the www...

But hey.. I know nothing! 🙂
