I am an IT professional with over 20 years experience. I have been a network/telecommunications manager (5 years), IT Program Director (4 years), Director of Data Center and Network Services (6 years), Director of Cloud Services (3 years) and Sr. IT Architect (2 years), all for an aerospace/defense company.

Will this be sufficient experience to qualify for the CISSP certification?

JD,

It is impossible to determine your experience in information security based simply on those job titles. On the surface, none of those titles show experience in information security. That said, many people doing such jobs have deep infosec experience as part of the job. I recommend you download the full CISSP domain description document (the CBK), and see if you can confirm five years of direct infosec experience in at least two of the eight domains. If so, then you should be solid for earning teh CISSP. Of course, you also have to survive the exam.

Good luck.

So, as stated in the other comment it's difficult to tell based on titles only, rather than seeing in detail the job tasks you were doing within each role, but also you can claim years with education. Even though you may not have enough experience, if you passed the CISSP exam, you would be eligible for Associate of ISC2, which would allow you to collect enough experience , to then become full CISSP

> jdlongmire (Viewer) posted a new topic in Certifications on 12-12-2018 02:22 PM in the (ISC)² Community :

> I am an IT professional with over 20 years experience. I have been a
> network/telecommunications manager (5 years),

Telecom

> IT Program Director (4 years),

Ops

> Director of Data Center and Network Services (6 years),

Ops

> Director of Cloud Services (3 years)

Either telecom or Ops

> and Sr. IT Architect (2 years),

Architecture

> all for an
> aerospace/defense company.

Hmmmm. They tend to be weird ....

> Will this be sufficient experience to qualify
> for the CISSP certification?

Well, the really *important* question is: do you know any CISSPs? They'd know
what you've actually done. Given that background, I'd say you have a shot, if
you've paid any attention to security.

If you don't know any CISSPs and have to self-certify, documenting specific
security tasks might be a bit arduous ...

====================== (quote inserted randomly by Pegasus Mailer)
rslade@vcn.bc.ca slade@victoria.tc.ca rslade@computercrime.org
Axiom #2: Ability to type on a computer terminal is no guarantee
of sanity, intelligence, or common sense.
Corollary #3: An infinite number of monkeys at an infinite
number of keyboards could produce something like Usenet.
Corollary #4: They could do a better job of it. - Gene Spafford
victoria.tc.ca/techrev/rms.htm http://twitter.com/rslade
http://blogs.securiteam.com/index.php/archives/author/p1/
https://is.gd/RotlWB
