The challenge with these reports is that it seems to encourage people with little practical real world infosec experience to ask for large starting salaries, which many employers won't pay for someone without a proven track record.  So they don't get hired, don't get better experience etc.

@Steve-Wilme and the double whammy is that businesses want to hire on the cheap so there becomes a tipping point where you know too much to be hired for a large salary and so your current (underpaid) salary brings the numbers down. I have seen many organizations struggle to know where to place cyber talent in the executive hierarchy. Or they don't know how to properly fund the position. Or they hire someone cheap and hope for the best.

 

I always say the best time to join an organization is just after they have been breached. Th organization will find the money to spend then.
